Machala is the coastal city nearest to Loja. It takes about 6 hours by bus to get there with the Loja Internacional. Then a short taxi drive ($3) to the port (Puerto Bolivar) and the real fun begins.A small but comfortable boat will take you from the mooring to the island. It only takes about 20 minutes but you’d want it to take more because the scenery is stunning.

After 5 minutes in the harbor the boat enters the Jambeli mangrove and from there on you are in a quiet protected space where you can observe quite a bit of wildlife (especially birds) right from the boat.

Upon arrival to the island, it only takes a very short stroll on a lovely paved street bordered by hotels and restaurants …

…to hit the sand !

For those who are on a tight budget and are not too demanding in terms of comfort and luxury, we recommend “La Ramada de Noe”. It is a basic but clean hostel and they only charge a modest $10 a head. It is located on the main street on the left facing the beach.

The owners, Luis Eras and his wife Norma, welcomed us with a delicious 100% natural “granizado de coco”, their specialty.

We chatted with them and also with some tourists from Mexico, Belgium and Finland. All were very happy with the easy going atmosphere of the island. Contrary to Montañita for example, Jambeli is predominantly visited by Ecuadorians being from Machala, Guayaquil, Cuenca or Loja. International tourists are present but still a minority which is an advantage for those who seek authenticity.

This man from Mexico was staying at the hostel for a few nights and his dearest wish was to do nothing, have a good rest and find great food. He was praising the place and the warm welcome that he had received from the owners.

For $10 a head you get simple but clean rooms. They do have cable TV and also WIFI internet. Some rooms have air conditioning, some others have a fan.

The beds are good. The tap and shower water is quite salty. This is a problem in Jambeli. They pump the water out of a deep well on the island itself. La Ramada de Noe buys containers of potable water that they boil and use for cooking. For drinking it is best to buy bottled water.

We asked for hot water to make a coffee at 5:30 AM the next morning because we had to catch an early bus back to Loja. At the dot of 5:30, Luis was up and ready with two cups of water, hot but not boiling. They only drink instant coffee on the coast but we like to brew our own and for this the water has to be boiling. We would prefer to have a place where we could heat up some water ourselves to make a good filtered coffee. Luis was listening to the suggestion. We will see next time.

Conclusion

For the modest price of only $10 per person, La Ramada de Noe is a winner. We wish Luis and Norma all the best and it will be our pleasure to visit them some time again in the future.

There, you will find a dental office, a center of alternative therapies and a distribution center with a wide range of organic products.

Daniel and Claudia are charming and very accessible people. We had a two hour interview without anticipating what exactly we were about to discover. We went with curiosity and an open mind.

It soon became clear that it is the word “holistic” that characterizes them best. Holistic means “characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.” and this is what their center is about.

This really is what the center is about: holism and balance. They help their clients and patients to get back to a balanced state of the body and the mind using various techniques from the practice of neurofocal dentistry and neural therapy or the administration of vitamin C to the teaching of new ways of preparing food with ingredients such as quinoa and amaranth.

Daniel is an engineer whose role is the administration of the center and the sourcing of the many organic some time difficult to find products that the center has on offer.

Claudia is a licensed odontologist who practices neural odontology, neural therapy and provides high dose vitamin C treatments.

Together, Daniel and Claudia created the BIOregenereC (pronounced beeo-regenere-ce) center which is conveniently located in their own home next to Claudia’s dental practice. Here their products are on display, they perform the vitamin C treatments, they give vegetarian cooking classes and she runs her ondontology practice.

There is material for an entire book here. It is beyond the scope of this short article to comprehensively cover topics like Vitamin C or neural therapies.

Having said that we will try in the following paragraphs to provide some basic and accessible albeit incomplete information on these important topics.

Vitamin C

On the issue of mega-doses of vitamin C, there is much misinformation on the internet and you have to really be careful and understand that here we are not talking about vitamin C in terms of its commonly recognized use by the orthodox medical world. We are talking mega doses therapy, saturation, we are talking about grams, not milligrams, up to 300 grams in extreme cases, nothing to do with the recommended 100 milligrams per day which you can read about on the internet. To use a comparison, it is like talking about the use of salt to give flavor to food in the kitchen compared to the use of the magnesium salt (Epsom salt) to do a cleansing of the digestive system. They are very different amounts and purposes.

For the reader interested in some background reading on Vitamin C, we recommend to start by reading directly what the inventor of the treatment has to say.  Frederick R. Klenner, M.D., F.C.C.P., explains in his whitepaper from 1971 how he cured polio with 100% success with vitamin C well before the advent of vaccines. Dr Klenner treated many illnesses with Vitamin C. It has a multitude of applications. Below is a photo of the board that Daniel and Claudia have on display in their center:

Claudia tells us:

“The neural therapy goes hand in hand with mega doses of vitamin C, since many times the patient’s body is so intoxicated either by drugs, food, radiation. First I administer the patient a serum of vitamin C intravenously to help eliminate toxins, increase defenses, sometimes going through a healing crisis. Once the body is free of toxins, neural therapy works wonders … “

Neurofocal Odontology

As per neurofocal odontology, it is a rather complex subject which I would personally and modestly try to introduce this way: while acupuncture or acupressure for example treat the entire body by repairing/restoring the body’s energy channels (called meridians) with needles or applied pressure, neurofocal odontology recognizes that many of these channels start from the mouth and that therefore it is of uttermost importance to treat the mouth and the teeth with care.

This is what Dr. Ruilova has to say:

“Dentistry Neurofocal is making a different dentistry that does not affect the rest of the body. It is free of metals (mercury or cobalt-chrome) in the mouth, as this will somehow affect other organs … People usually don’t relate mercury in a molar with a renal problem but they should.

What I propose is a type of dentistry that is friendly not only with the environment but with the body, which does not affect the rest of the body and this goes hand in hand with Neural Therapy, since this is based on energy and all living beings are energy, then any cut in our body, any small scar or worse any surgery scar (caesarean section, kidney surgery, tooth extraction etc.) are cuts that affect the energy flow.

So the aim of Neural Therapy is to restore the energy flow to that place where there was the cut. What I use in these cases is Impletol (union of procaine anesthetic and stimulant caffeine ), I call them Yin and Yang because the two make a balance. Neural Therapy is a holistic medicine, without side effects.”

Claudia uses local anesthetics without vasoconstrictors and does not recommend antibiotics or painkillers. All this goes hand in hand she explains.

In conventional odontology, vasoconstrictors are used in anesthetics to reduce bleeding during extraction (for the dentist’s convenience rather than the patient’s) or surgery. The problem is that these products remain in the body for as long as eight hours. This long time without blood circulation in the affected areas creates problems after surgery and that is why antibiotics are normally prescribed along with analgesics to alleviate the pain.

On the other hand, Claudia practices an other type of odontology. For a start she uses anesthetics that do not contain vasoconstrictors and lets the normal bleeding occur during the procedure. Then, after surgery or extraction she does neural therapy not only in the mouth but in the entire body. This way the patient can go home without any prescription and without pain, including after serious surgery. She explains that an abscess drains itself  beautifully this way. No pain, no infection, no drugs.

This is yet another example of how alternative medicine lets the body heal alone and without the interference of antibiotics or painkillers. Why is it not practiced everywhere like this? “Ignorance, fear, habits” she says.

On a personal level.  I’ve met in my life some “dentists terrorists” who made me suffer and made me scared. With Claudia none of this happens. You feel in good hands and very sweet hands that is. She is a woman who does her work not only with experience and intelligence but also with love.

Organic products

Of course it is even better to not need any treatment at all and if possible sail through your entire life without illnesses. A change of diet, a healthy diet based on natural, organic products such as people of this country used to consume in the old days is an important step towards a state of “perfect health”. For example I am referring to this super food called “quinoa”, rich in better proteins than meat.

Daniel travels around the country and has many contacts, searching for the best organic products.

In the food category, they have an impressive catalogue of 50 organic products and in the body-care category, 25 products. In addition they offer 12 different salt lamps at very competitive prices and they are official distributors for the BioC products in the southern region of Ecuador (Loja and Zamora Chinchipe).

Allí encontrará un consultorio odontológico, un centro de terapias alternativas y un centro de distribución de una amplia gama de productos orgánicos. El centro esta ubicado en el sur de la ciudad de Loja, entre el redondel de la Tebaida y el Supermaxi.

Daniel y Claudia son personas encantadoras y comunicativas. Tuvimos una entrevista de 2 horas sin presumir al inicio de que exactamente íbamos a tratar. Llegamos con curiosidad y mente abierta.

Pronto se hizo evidente que la palabra “holístico” es lo que mejor les caracteriza.

La medicina holística indica que para un correcto tratamiento terapéutico se debe tener en cuenta el entorno y los diferentes aspectos que componen a la persona. Incluye conceptos como ‘energía vital’ y ‘equilibrio’.

De esto realmente se trata en el centro de Claudia y Daniel. Ellos ayudan a sus clientes y pacientes a volver a este equilibrio utilizando varias técnicas desde la practica de la odontología neurofocal o la administración de la vitamina C hasta enseñando nuevas formas de preparar los alimentos con ingredientes ancestrales tales como la quinoa y el amaranto.

Daniel es un ingeniero industrial cuya función es la administración del centro y el abastecimiento de los múltiples productos que ofrecen.

Claudia es doctora en odontología y se ha especializado en una forma muy interesante de  odontología que se llama “odontología neurofocal”. En su consultorio dental practica la terapia neural y también proporciona terapia de mega dosis de vitamina C.

Juntos, Daniel y Claudia crearon el centro BIOregenereC que está convenientemente ubicado en su propia casa contigua a la clínica dental de Claudia. Aquí los productos están en exhibición y en venta, llevan a cabo los tratamientos con vitamina C y dan clases de cocina vegetariana.

Con todo lo que hacen hay material para un escribir un libro. Cubrir ampliamente temas complejos como la vitamina C en mega dosis o la terapia neural es algo fuera del alcance de un breve artículo  como este.

Sin embargo, a continuación les damos algunas referencias en el internet y tratamos con la ayuda de Claudia de aclarar estos temas.

Vitamina C

Con respecto al tema de mega-dosis de vitamina C, hay mucha desinformación en el internet y hay que realmente tener cuidado y entender que aquí no se habla de la vitamina C en términos “vitamínicos” normalmente reconocidos por el mundo medical ortodoxo. Aquí se trata de terapia megadosis, de saturación, hablamos de gramos y no de miligramos, hasta 300 gramos en casos extremos y no de la dosis diaria recomendada de 100 miligramos por dia sobre la cual se puede leer en miles de paginas web. Para utilizar una comparación es como hablar del uso de la sal para dar sabor a los alimentos en la cocina comparado con el uso de la sal de magnesio (sal de Epsom) para hacerse una limpieza del sistema digestivo. Son cantidades y propósitos muy diferentes.

El lector interesado encontrará un buen sitio para empezar leyendo los artículos del inventor mismo del tratamiento. Frederick R. Klenner , MD, FCCP, explica por ejemplo en su publicación en el año de 1971 cómo curaba la polio con 100% de éxito con altas dosis de vitamina C y esto bien antes del advenimiento de las vacunas. El doctor Klenner trataba muchas enfermedades con la vitamina C. Las aplicaciones son realmente múltiples. A continuación una foto de la pancarta que Daniel y Claudia presentan en su centro:

Claudia nos cuenta:

“La terapia neural va de la mano con la mega dosis de vitamina C,  ya que muchas veces el cuerpo del paciente esta tan intoxicado ya sea por medicamentos, por la alimentación, radiación. Primero realizo una desintoxicación del paciente con un suero de vitamina C intravenoso para ayudar a eliminar las toxinas, aumentar las defensas, pasar por una crisis curativa. Una vez un cuerpo libre de toxinas la terapia neural funciona de maravilla… ”

Odontología neurofocal y terapia neural

La odontología neurofocal es un tema complejo que la Dra. Ruilova nos resume de la siguiente manera :

“La Odontología Neurofocal es hacer una odontología diferente que no afecta al resto del cuerpo, libre de metales (mercurio o cromo cobalto) en boca, ya que esto va afectar de alguna manera a cualquier órgano… Y lo peor del caso es que la gente no relaciona un molar con mercurio con un problema renal.

Lo que yo propongo es un tipo de odontología que sea amigable no solo con el medio ambiente sino con el cuerpo, que no afecte al resto del organismo y esto va de la mano con la Terapia Neural, ya que esta está basada en energía y nosotros los seres vivos somos energía, entonces cualquier corte en nuestro cuerpo, cualquier cicatriz por más pequeña que sea y aún más una cicatriz de cirugía (cesárea, cirugía de riñón, una extracción dental etc.) son cortes energéticos.

Entonces lo que hace la Terapia Neural es devolver la circulación energética a ese lugar donde hubo el corte. Lo que yo utilizo en estos casos es Impletol (la unión de la procaína anestésico y cafeína estimulante), los llamo el Yin y el Yang, los dos hacen un equilibrio y es la razón que yo trabajo con Impletol. La Terapia Neural es una medicina holística, sin efectos colaterales. ”

Claudia utiliza anestésicos locales sin vasoconstrictor y no recomienda antibióticos ni analgésicos. Todo esto va de la mano nos explica.

En odontología convencional, utilizan vasoconstrictores en los anestésicos. Esto es para cerrar los vasos y para que no haya mucha sangre durante la extracción o la cirugía. El problema es que estos productos se quedan en el cuerpo durante 8 horas. Tanto tiempo sin circulación en las áreas afectadas por la cirugía crea problemas después. Por eso, en odontología convencional se debe recetar antibióticos para evitar infecciones.

Mientras tanto, Claudia practica un otro tipo de odontología mas respetuosa del cuerpo. Por empezar, utiliza anestésicos sin vasoconstrictores. De esta forma Claudia deja el sangrado normal suceder durante la extracción o la cirugía. Por eso ella nos explica que no necesita recetar antibióticos pues que el cuerpo se encargará solo de sanar la herida. Ademas, después de la cirugía o extracción hace terapia neural. Así el paciente puede regresar a casa sin ninguna prescripción y sin dolor, incluido en caso de cirugía fuerte.

Esto es otro ejemplo de la medicina  alternativa dejando el cuerpo sanarse solo y sin la interferencia de antibióticos o anti dolor.

Bueno, yo he conocido en mi vida algunos “dentistas terroristas” que me hicieron sufrir y me asustaron. Con Claudia nada de eso sucede. Uno se siente en buenas manos y manos muy dulces. No he experimentado personalmente la terapia neural pero Claudia me atendió este dia para alegrar un molar que había perdido un pedazo y también me hizo una limpieza. Es una mujer que hace su trabajo no solamente con experiencia e inteligencia pero también con amor.

Productos orgánicos

Es siempre mejor no necesitar ningún tratamiento para nada y si fuera posible llevar su vida entera sin enfermedades. Un cambio de dieta, una buena alimentación basada en productos naturales, orgánicos tales como los consumía la gente de este país en los antepasados es un paso importante hacia un estado de “salud perfecta”.

Daniel recorre todo el país y tiene muchos contactos, buscando y consiguiendo los mejores productos orgánicos.
